Hamdam is a newspaper publishing from Hyderabad Founded by Hazrath Late. Al-Haj Dr.Syed Mustafa Quadri Khateeb ; (Freedom Fighter) Tambra Patra & Abhinonden Patra Holder awarded by the president of India.
Established in the year 1951. This Newspaper is published in Urdu language & the period of publication is Daily.
Well, Hamdam Urdu Daily is one of the oldest newspaper of Hyderabad. Roots of Hamdam actually go back to the early time when it was State of Hyderabad Deccan, During those days of Freedom Movement when No Muslims in Hyderabad Deccan could dare to oppose the Nizam’s Government, Dr.Syed Mustafa Quadri Khateeb was the only Muslim from Hyderabad to participate in the freedom struggle and was arrested and detained for writing article in Hamdam Newspaper in 1936 for ushering in greater democracy and freedom in the erstwhile Hyderabad Sate during the Nizam’s regime; after which Nizam of Hyderabad State issued Decree seizing Hamdam Newspaper and a lot of Properties & Lands belonging to Dr.Khateeb.
Dr.Khateeb fought case with the Ruling Nizam Government and after winning the case he was then free to resume Hamdam Newspaper. After this Incident Nizam of Hyderabad in Urdu Language lauded the sentence saying “Hamdam se aagaya meri Naak me Dum”.
Not only by the Nizam’s Government but also by British’s and During British Government or British Raj Dr.Khateeb was prisoned during Independence Movement, Salt Satyagraha Movement 1930, Quit India Moment 1942, Struggle for Freedom Movement 1947.
He served many and frequent jail sentences and spent years in Karachi Central Jail 1921, Chanchalguda Central Prison, Naini Central Prison, Allahabad Central Jail, etc…
Dr.Khateeb also Participated in Salt Satyagraha, Dandi March which was an act of nonviolent civil disobedience in colonial India led by Father of Nation Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. Hamdam Newspaper played important role during Salt satyagraha by Publishing News and Articles related to it leading to gathering of thousands of Peoples from many places.
Dr. Khateeb was the only Muslim from the state of Hyderabad Deccan who joined Congress in the Freedom Movement and was among the national leaders of Congress.
During this Freedom Movement Dr.Syed Mustafa Quadri Khateeb along with First Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was imprisoned in Allahabad Central Prison by the British Government.
Later, After the Independence of india in 1947, Hamdam Urdu Daily Newspaper got registered with Govt of India in the Year 1951 of which its title head is Mentioned as Estd: 1951..
Dr.Khateeb was the first Indian Cycle tourist who travelled 47 Countries on Cycle and also travelled to Makkah Shareef for Haj on Bicycle.

Articles/Editorials/News Columns of Hamdam Newspaper is used as reference in many of the History Books; few of the following Books are – India Wins Freedom, The Indian Political System, The Press in Hyderabad, During the Election 1951-52.
As per the reports of Newspapers Records, During 1951 there were only 5 Urdu Daily Newspapers from Hyderabad namely; Hamdam, Masheer E Deccan, Milap, Rehnuma E Deccan, Siasat.
Later in 1960 Annual Report of Government of India; Number of Urdu Daily Newspapers raised to 10.
